As Primo Levi teaches us, however, an elegant hypothesis is not prove in itself.

Your theory on ‘has a left hand’ is too beautiful not to be true.

It feels remarkable that he scored both Citizens Kane and Taxi Driver, movies that otherwise feel like they came from different universes.

He did so much! There’s a doc on Psycho on BBC4 tonight in fact.

I used to get exercised by the Oscars, and I can see it’s a big deal if you’re in the industry, but I’m not sure they have any more objective merit than the British Pie Awards. A bit of a jolly, some nice publicity for the industry, hopefully the bar is free all night.

Lovely to see Sinners too - it seems to have dropped off a few end of year lists, as tends to happen to movies from early in a year. Love a hard to categorise movie, especially when horror rubs up against different genres in surprising ways (one of my favourite things about Parasite, for example).

Fascinating list, I was wholly unaware of Listers and now feel I must look it up.

You were expecting sprouts to stop you from shitting? If anything, my experience is the opposite.

I’m buying into this pedantry! More generally, how far do you go with English use of loan words (particularly from French). For example, film noirs or films noirs?

However talented they may be, Jamie Smith and (based on the India test) Bethell don’t look at all ready to perform under pressure. Have England let the excitement of youthful promise get the best of them?

Wait, when was the voting?

Always a joy to see your posts! (Just to check, who taught you these social media skills - was it the son of a Reacher fan?)

The thought of those cuffs flapping into every little plate is quite upsetting. They have those little holes in them for a reason.

As well as the movies, Bamforth was famous for picture postcards which I’m obliged to refer to as ‘saucy’.

Quite where the tunnel was, I’m not sure. Like many places in the UK, Holmfirth lost its railway in the 1960s. We were, however, told at school that Holmfirth was the biggest centre of movie making before Hollywood (some local proud at work there, I fancy!).
