Update: Nov-2025 is 1.55°C above average.

The media says "2024 was the hottest year and the first above 1.5°" but that is NOT the story.

THIS ist the story:

The average of the last 36 months (aka 3 years) is now at 1.52°C above average.

"We found that emissions from peatlands were almost twice as high as what European countries currently report. This is mainly due to systematic underestimation."
Degraded peatlands emit nearly twice as much greenhouse gas as previously thought, study finds

When global temperatures shot up by ~6°C about 56 million years ago, plants were unable to thrive

The reduced ability of vegetation & soils to capture & store carbon may have kept temperatures elevated for >100,000 years

Today Earth is warming ~10 times faster than it did 56 million years ago
56 million years ago, the Earth suddenly heated up – and many plants stopped working properly
It could be a sign of what’s to come.
