I mean he definitely is, in the sense that a gun is damaged every time it's fired.

One frustration of watching MPs ask questions for an hour is that they're not very good at it. Prescott has not been asked about the fairly glaring errors in his own report – that *it misquoted Trump in exactly the same way it says Panorama did*

EXCLUSIVE: Michael Prescott himself doctored Trump quote in his anti-BBC report
A report alleging Panorama broadcast misleading Trump quotes contains misleading quotes itself

yeah, "if you are a moderately popular poster I assume you are functionally equivalent to Margot Robbie", which is unfair to a) posters and b) Margot Robbie

Yes, you see it in subtext a lot and occasionally it breaks through to text, "you arrived in my life via a screen and people who are on screens are in a different category, invulnerable to harm but existing to be consumed"

Relatedly, one of the microhills I will die on is that a lot of the online pathologies we try to attribute to algorithms or architecture or incentives are mostly just "social interaction at scale is something our brains weren't built for"

I do think this it true but I suspect it maybe goes even further, I am not entirely sure some people meaningfully conceive of any of this as real people at all. It is a TV you are shouting at but sometimes that makes the TV cry and if that happens it means you won the shouting at the TV game.

I would simply have unfettered free-market capitalism but ban it from responding to the market conditions changing over time.

which doesn't mean that people are wrong to avoid the things that they're allergic to! but a lot of Internet advice is like screaming at everybody to run away from a field of ragweed because you personally have hayfever

A lot of people use the word "toxic" when the right metaphor is really "allergenic". Ascribing universal harm to something that actually only has negative effects on certain people.

the "cancelling on your friends is self-care" to "inaccurately left-coded hyper-individualism" pipeline

Can't help feeling the movie would have landed slightly differently if Kevin Costner had turned to the camera and explained Garrison's actual theory, that JFK was killed by the gay community because homosexual men get an erotic thrill from murder.

A thing I hadn't really appreciated before researching it in depth is how completely deranged the Garrison prosecution was, and how almost nothing in the Stone film is even slightly true.

yeah this was always going to be a transition season, even before being hit by tragedy it was always at least plausible they'd have difficulties, you always lose more when you rebuild a well-functioning machine than when you take apart something that's just been awkwardly clanking along
