Matt Frank might have the most consistently S tier kaiju art out there. Not to say the series shouldn't have a good plot but so many kaiju getting his artistic rendition is a major treat in itself

That definitely explains it. The way the greater fandom speaks of it definitely makes it seem like they're a seamless trilogy. I've somehow in all my years of watching Ultraman never found out that wasn't the case. Thanks for clearing that up.
