Clear cut good guys and bad guys are often not as clear cut as people describe them its just down to the flanderization they experience very rapidly on social media, but on top of that its easier to use them as the props they ultimately are to further your story. I want to know what you're saying.

Maybe im also just a bit tired of seeing people talk about characters so literally, trying to treat these fictional people like they're deserving of the same empathy as Real people, especially when i feel like i almost never see discussion of themes, metaphors, or anything else on social media.

Themes like grief and longing ring true. When in the majority of other modern examples i fail to find the worth outside of their literal and surface appeal, any literary appeal i try to seek from these characters tends to fall flat and sometimes just boil down to "ends justify the means"

finding anything interesting to discuss like Thematically about characters that do something like this. There are def characters i LOVE cuz of the moral complexity of their actions, like Emet Selch who is arguably as bad as the example i listed if not worse. But ff14's themes are much clearer.
