The Duck Detective games are a lighter (in both tone and puzzle level) take on the same "fill in the blanks" mechanics. MindCop features a much more free-form, time-limited investigation. Hypnospace Outlaw is also in the neighborhood and it's execution on the alt-history internet premise rules.
