Sorry I forgot to acknowledge that you agreed poverty is a factor. If poverty is the strongest predictor, then our focus should be on socio-economic empowerment of indigenous Australians.

I’m not disputing that it’s happening, I’m trying to pinpoint the actual issue. So we’re saying judges are making racist decisions?

But what is the mechanism that leads to this outcome? Is poverty the main factor? Does a poor non-indigenous woman locked up for this as well? Are judges making racist decisions? A lot of people are quoting the outcomes here but I’m not hearing any answers that pinpoint the cause.

Because some of my friends joined the police 🤷🏽♂️. It’s a very comfortable question.

Thanks for the example and I’m sure this type of racism exists. What do we know about how widespread such attitudes are? I have a fair few cop friends who I’m certain would speak up in these situations.

What do you mean by ‘systematically’? Do you mean they have specific orders to racially discriminate? I’m not being a smart ass, just trying to understand the actual issue.

Obviously an alarming reality. Does controlling for other factors help to pinpoint where the issue lies? Is it that indigenous people are more likely to be imprisoned for the same crime a non-indigenous person walks free from?

Not defending Israel but I disagree. If 3 home invaders killed your kid and were threatening to kill the rest of your family, would killing one of the invaders be a fair response? (I’m more than aware that this is not a perfect analogy, just an example that body count isn’t necessarily justice).

I’m critical of Israel as well but body count is not the best measure of morality here. Would we have been ok with Israel simply saying: “let’s just go murder 1200 innocent people and we’ll call it even”?
