Watched Damsel. I expected more camp. In the setup I started writing my own movie in my head and my movie was better. Very disappointing.
Missed opportunity to do an interesting demonstration of survivorship bias

me when Emerson cites Plato as an example of independent thought unburdened by tradition

Watched Friday the 13th (2009). Seriously misguided rebooquel, huge waste of time on all fronts. Meandering, doesn't know what it wants to be other than a showcase of aggressive boob jobs.

Watched This Is Spinal Tap. Brilliant as a comedy and pretty good as a brief history of rock and roll. All the gags I was roughly familiar with were all here. Kinda great cameo from Bruno Kirby.

Post your favorite “Lord of the Rings” character. Wong answers only.

Watched Wicked: For Good. For a story about being fooled by spectacle, Wicked: For Good puts all its cards straight on the table. But I still enjoyed the spectacle and the Cynthia/Ariana power duo.

Watched Plane. Economical pacing, builds tension, moderates on action hero bullshit until it really counts, and then gives a good hit of action hero bullshit as a treat. Solid.

A movie that takes place where you're from:

Watched Maxxxine. The difference between pastiche and period piece is when someone is handed a New Coke instead of a Tab.
Horror salad, nothing gels. The surprise killer reveal is less an "oh shit!" and more a "wait, what?" It's not even a twist, it's a hard left.
Is the next movie Maxine In Space?

Watched London Has Fallen. Ridiculous plot, terrible script, even by action movie standards. Film looks like shit, color temperature and lighting are off everywhere. I know it’s England, but we can perk it up for Hollywood, yes?
November 13, 2025 at 5:51 AM
Watched Frankenstein (2025). Some men, rather than go to therapy, etcetera...
Beautiful work, solid performances. Del Toro's hyperreal style lends to the fantastical nature of the story, but also looks a bit video gamey. So really I just want to see him do Castlevania.
November 10, 2025 at 4:31 AM
Watched Heart Eyes. Heart Eyes is like an awkward Valentine’s Day threesome: nobody is getting the attention they want and the commitment issues are on full display. Could’ve been better if the dull satire didn’t undercut tension at every opportunity.
And that Hobbs and Shaw reference? Shame on you…
October 31, 2025 at 11:13 PM
Watched Totally Killer. What if Back To The Future: The Next Generation with teen slasher elements. More campy than scary, the focus on horror set pieces makes the plot a bit video gamey, all in all pretty fun

So glad to have @drmollyolly.bsky.social as my on-call arachnologist

Watched Assault on Precinct 13. Leave it to Carpenter to run an action movie through the horror movie calculus. Lots of fun jobs here for the effects and foley crews. Leigh is just too cool.

I’m getting some Warren from Power Moves. Check out @giantbomb.bsky.social’s analysis on Warren. #PushWarren www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNGm...

Watched KPop Demon Hunters. Sony’s animation team continues to smash everything they touch. Delightful, relatable story, great characters. Expected more musical moments, but I guess that’s what the singalong cut is for

Today I cut myself twice with the mandolin making lunch, first from cucumbers, then onions. I had to back out from the kitchen thinking “Is this how I *die*? Escalating cuts until @drmollyolly.bsky.social comes home and finds me bled out on the floor, the cats eating the chicken out of my salad?”

Kinda weird that Google doesn’t have Kevin McCarthy in its cast list…
September 27, 2025 at 4:04 AM
Watched Invasion of the Body Snatchers. This film is clearly a deep root of sci-fi horror. Snappy pace, not without plot holes, keeps the tension up, definitely a 50s-era us-versus-them warning call
September 27, 2025 at 3:57 AM
Watched Blackboard Jungle. The progenitor of the white savior teacher movie is almost the most problematic and *brutal*. Loads of great performances, but very few characters here to root for
September 25, 2025 at 4:50 AM
Watched Champagne and Bullets. Wow, this certainly makes some story choices that don’t get fully addressed. This could’ve been brilliant if they paid as much attention to the plot as they did to long, unbroken shots of gratuitous nudity.
Boo to the shitty sex assault scene. Huck is a riot
