I've actually been really into YTPMVs and OtoMADs lately, and I've even been invited to DJ with those videos at a japanese art university

Pure MIDI is all about:
sounds that don’t react to velocity, kind of like old-school PCM tones
using anything - GM modules, VSTs, whatever you like
