Ok, but just to be clear when we’re talking about what America is and isn’t, it’s important to distinguish that this is nothing new. It’s new to white people and it’s not who America claims to be, that’s true.

America is built on stolen land and stolen labor, we’re not the shining example people want to believe we are. Acknowledging that is a huge step toward being the ideal “America” you believe us to be.

It’s inhumane, it’s disgusting, it’s abhorrent, but to say it’s unamerican is inaccurate. The police started as force to catch slaves and have continued in their terrorism toward BIPOC communities since. It’s just the first time people with privilege are really seeing and experiencing it.

Tbh as an indigenous person this and “land back” callouts feel performative. People can make the day about love and family without it being about colonizers and still appreciating indigenous people’s grief. What matters more is what you do than what you perform. He is feeding homeless people.

Idk how true that is, maybe in some ideal sense of “America” but this govt and country are not innocent in its history of exploiting people of color.

They would be deserving of human decency and respect regardless of how much money they can be exploited for. Many immigrants are Drs, nurses, lawyers in their home country and come here out of desperation only to be abused and racially profiled.
