There needs to be greater context of this- it is not new- I published these stats in 2002. 90% of species are wild- not individuals (e.g. the volume). Also- only 4 online retailers were surveyed. Amazing the stories/shares and no communication with the authors. @andrewlrhyne.bsky.social

We have trouble getting uptake at the government level because why would anyone want to improve the wildlife inspection process? @charliesaito22.bsky.social has written about this extensively.
