Furry that escaped from botville. 40 years old. SL User (18 years?!), waning video game, avid board gamer. Also wrestles as Akane Asaki in EAW in SL
Or, worse yet, they used to make videos where they spoke normally in their native language then...they decide to AI Dub <_<

And...some games have a rabbit hole's amount of fan content to go through as well!

Yeah, there was some AI Drama within the Doom community when Graf Zaul (lead of GZDoom) used AI Slop in the code and during the bickering he said effectively "Okay, yeah, maybe AI might be bad for coding...but it would be good for more 'disposable things like ART!'". Just...yikes

It's always "Won't somebody think of the devs!"...until it comes to mass layoffs

Like there's been so many ways that people that tried to fix the Doom quirks to their liking but no one agreed on them. the Kex port of the doom games only supports...2 of them (The original standard that came through Doom, Doom 2, and Final Doom and Boom, the port by the Evilution devs)

And some games have absolute RABBIT HOLES when it comes to mods. The biggest feature of Doom 1+2 and Heretic+Hexen is that they support a good number of mods without requiring a 3rd party source port (though you should only download the mods in their browsers with how...XKCD the doom community is)

Also, difficulty downing is an option (unless if you're already on the easiest difficulty). It's just fascinating that on steam that the Legacy Of Rust finish achievement got more people than Plutonia despite LOR having no nostalgia value
November 15, 2025 at 6:40 PM
Yep, welcome to the rabbit hole known as Classic doom. If you don't like the harder stuff...watch out for The Plutonia Experiment in Final Doom (as far as it goes for "difficult official games")

Yeah, which was annoying for the DOOM CE mod and yet I didn't want to break the packed in version of GZD by putting in a custom ini that hopefully only pointed to the executable folder (which could limit the selection to the required IWAD and the PK3), nor do I want to break my D64CE saves

My last game of 2p Terra Nova was just that. I made a lot of bad decisions that gave me no chance in winning, but I still enjoyed the game because the person that...showed interest in Terra Mystica ended up liking the toe dip that is TN

More importantly, security fixes as well. Though, yes, the nicer defaults are nice too.
November 13, 2025 at 6:41 AM
It's amazing at what changing some things ever so minorly can do to the game!
November 13, 2025 at 6:11 AM
Yeah, I get that. It takes some time to make sure that you remove all of the references to the 'base' that you're forking off of. I mean with like how they can't really 'visibly' call themselves GZDoom but they can say they're "compatible with"
November 11, 2025 at 12:38 AM
Lol, I used Batch files for Mods/Megawads/Episode Replacements with GZDoom, so that's going to be fun with fixing all of them to work with UZDoom XD
November 11, 2025 at 12:29 AM
I think that's the autoaim detected setting in KEX Doom from what I remember. Though, yeah, that would be a nice feature as that's supported by Woof! (Which is a WinBoom successor and Nugget Doom predecessor). At least there's no "Le No Chicken" at the helm

More thanks to using a dock software, so it takes a bit longer to update stuff depending on my approach, is all
November 9, 2025 at 9:13 PM
I used to use ZDL for loading IWADS only, honestly XD. I haven't started to use addons like Cblood or Nashgore until this year but I found it easy to just batch file them for checking to see if things load right in terms of load order and if I typed the pwad/pk3 file correctly. Though, shortcutfun
November 9, 2025 at 9:09 PM
Granted, it's also been years since I last had to do a fork change for a game I play (Stepmania 5 -> Stepmania 5.3 -> Project Outfox)
November 9, 2025 at 8:20 PM
Or...I could just use the config command or add in a console command into the batch to change comp level for me. Either way, that's going to be a 'fun' excursion.

As a general note: any mods that came with their own version of GZDoom might act funky under UZDoom. Example: Doom 64 CE has no sound
November 9, 2025 at 8:15 PM
Time to port a bunch of mod batch files to UZDoom, though I could just multi install it and put all of the comp families together (Doom comp in one, Boom Comp in another; just so I don't have to change comp level every time I change mods)

They HAD a successful board game division, but decided it was smart to sell it off
