Vance has a problem with lying? The Haitian community of Springfield OH thinks otherwise. Maybe Vance shouldn't throw stones, to paraphrase a Gospel reading that I've heard in every church I've ever attended!

The metaphor breaks down, obviously, because you can play music without reading music. You can't read and write without....reading and writing. I didn't mean to get into a discussion about learning music vs learning to read music.

Yeah, the research on phonemic awareness activities in isolation from letters has been around for DECADES. And still, the Heggerty program was very popular. (Our kids did it at New Field.) One problem is that phonemic awareness isn't something that can be taught the same way phonics can. 1/x

It's kind of like having a sense of pitch and rhythm. Studying music usually boosts awareness of pitch, but sometimes not. Then, you might need something to train or sharpen the skill.....but you don't "teach" pitch sensitivity, you train it where necessary. 2/2.
