like the difference between drugs here (re: your other post) is that gambling was a fairly marginal activity confined to like atlantic city and vegas and now like more than a third of men gamble *daily*

none of the expensive transplant parts of the city even have median incomes above 100k except playa vista, i think?

LA is still a working/middle class city where the influential “elites” are mostly like petite bourgeois types. when karen bass meets with the local cadre of party elites in any given neighborhood, it’s like restaurant owners, landlords, realtors, and the occasional lawyer.

its basically just that LA is much bigger and does not have a class of professionals anywhere near the size of SF
