This coroner’s report has been sitting on the desks of Ontario’s government since Feb 2025… 🤦‍♂️

Why is it only hitting the news cycle now?

Why hasn’t Ontario done anything about this issue in the last 9 months?

FB Roast and Toast community showing their usual distain in the comment section regarding safe places for people to ride their bicycles. 🤦‍♂️

Disappointingly it looks like the Bow River Pathway between 10 St and 14 St NW may have lost it opportunity to be completed before winter sets it. There's a long stretch where things have yet to be paved. I'm guessing that means it will not open until sometime in the spring.

Was reading through Calgary's budget that goes to council this week. On page 71, it lists the KPIs for Calgary's Mobility infrastructure.

There doesn't seem to be one for safety?

This is taken from Calgary’s 2016 Pedestrian Strategy.

We were targeting 4 and with more than a month to go, we are at 11 people dead after they were struck by a driver while walking.

In 2016, Calgary released its Pedestrian Strategy.

The document contained a section called “A Vision for 2025” that prophesied what it would be like in 10 years.

Well, it’s 2025. How did we do Calgary?

And now the post on community FB group takes a turn and the whole post will be taken down by the moderators… sigh.

You can let the City know you’d like to see this new safe space for people to ride open today by submitting a 311 request and writing our new councillor Myke Atkinson’s office: [email protected]

The more people they hear from, the sooner it’ll finally open!

Construction has largely wrapped up on 2 Ave & 7 Ave NW streetscape project, but the wheeling lanes have been barricaded as we wait for the City to install signage. Apparently it’s a liability concern and they won’t get around to it until sometime next year.

I recently visited a different place where people don’t wear cameras because the state has cameras everywhere for you. People seem to behave while walking, biking and driving b/c of this passive follow-up style policing. 👍

The majority of downtown Calgary has a speed limit of 50km/h. That’s not good for residential, nor is it good for businesses. People don’t like being on the street with the loud traffic noise generated by 50km/h speeds.

These protected lanes on 2 Av & 7 Av NW took several months to build & now they are blocked… likely for weeks.

Why?

B/c those tiny stop signs & Keep Left except bikes haven’t been installed yet.🙄

Help raise the issue. 311 and write [email protected]

For reference… this was a bit more than a year after Farkas 1.0 was first elected.

I think LJ will beat this record. 🤔

While that may be true (have receipts?), the risk remains higher at higher speeds should an incident occur.

If we truly want to address the issue, we should lower the design speed of streets or highways so the flow of traffic is at a safer speed, and everyone follows that speed. 👍

Was trying to remember when St John’s Church in Kensington burned down and found this…

It burned down in 2002.

But this news clip also added it was vacant b/c a year early it closed due to lack of… parking.

Even our places of worship are car dependent.

Oh and this concrete sign holder closer to the intersection is still knocked out of place from a month ago. 311 time.
November 17, 2025 at 3:30 AM
The flexiposts that were blocking the path were removed, but they were not re-installed to extend the separation to the longer bike lane. 🤨
November 17, 2025 at 3:26 AM
A month ago this bike lane on MacDougall Rd NE, that had been extended, still had the flexiposts in the middle of it from before when the bike lane was shorter. 👇

I have an update, can you guess how it is now?

The north side of the Bow River pathway east of 14 St NW is looking a lot curvier than before.

It also looks narrower than the planned drawings. 🤨

They were going to have a separate walking section on the same width of pavement.

This is World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims and the FB crowd responding to this Calgary Police post have it all figured out why there’s so many traffic deaths.

It’s because of the immigrants.🤦‍♂️
