Drummer with Fink, writer of books. Jaws was never my scene and I don’t like Star Wars. https://timthorntonmusicwriting.net
Astonished that more people aren't comparing the Epstein story to Stephen Ward. Rich bloke provides girls to posh friends - check. High society types are snared and shamed - check. Rumours of top secret leaks make things hard for UK government - check. Protagonist ends up topping himself - check.

I’m kind of disappointed that the promotional website for the movie Hamnet isn’t ham.net

I can only add my praise to that already heaped on this fantastic book by Justin Currie. Touching and hilarious, but also the most accurate depiction of touring life I’ve ever read

He thinks it’s funny to reach out with that outstretched paw as people pass and snag their garments/bare arms. It has long since ceased to be amusing. Look at him. All that caged up malevolent intent.

I have a problem with screenwriters who use the word "besides" in scripts. Whenever I hear a character saying "besides" I hear the cogs of the writer's mind turning. No one uses the word "besides" in conversation. It's one of those words that only works when written, like "sorrow" and "moreover".

You have to hand it to The Monocle Daily with @andrewmueller.bsky.social, they certainly know how to get to the heart of the matter… live from flipping Nuuk (where else?) open.spotify.com/episode/2qyX...

Just saw the new Bowie documentary and while brilliant the British journalists interviewed annoyed the living shit out of me. Tin Machine got EXCELLENT reviews when it first came out, and now everyone pretends they always hated it. Revisionist nonsense. I continue to die on this particular hill

Literally my music taste, right there (apart from Leo; sorry Leo)
Apropos nothing, the top five selling albums of 1979 in the UK. Unbelievably high banger quotient.

Some advice for surviving family life. Find a food item that only you like, and everyone else detests. I have two. Taramasalata, and the orange/strawberry creams from Quality Street. Keep them in stock. No one will steal them, and you can have a little quiet binge when everyone’s pissing you off.

Cut to: the Kiribati cabinet office. "We did it again, lads! The 4,540,000,000th year running! Well done team."

This year I read 25 books. For a well slow reader like me, that’s pretty good. 5 memoirs, 13 novels and 7 works of non-fiction. Book of my year? This one, not from this year (although hardly any are from this year…) www.amazon.co.uk/Curtain-Wall...

Dear podcasters. You don’t have to become a TV show. You really don’t.

I once saw some “advice” for potential authors on an indie publisher’s website, along the lines of, “if you read every book known to humankind, attend literary events eight nights a week and have written at least 34 practice novels: then and only then might you be permitted to send us a manuscript”
what is your least favorite piece of writing advice and why? 👀

Solstice day. Celebrated last night by having a huge family row about the Christmas tree. The phrase “Christmas is cancelled” was used unironically numerous times

Cut to: an AI overlord (probably played by a Superman II-era Terence Stamp), stroking its chin and uttering in a cool, calm voice, "What is this grief that humans feel? Fire up the grief machine and prepare to drown them." www.theguardian.com/music/2025/d...
Grief inspired so much of the year’s best music – and that’s something AI won’t ever feel
As AI generated ever more pop slop, reflective songwriting by artists from Clipse to CMAT drew its power from its very humanity

So many amazing films. His run in the 80s and early 90s is almost unbeatable. Spinal Tap, Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, Stand By Me, A Few Good Men. What a major dude.

I thought I’d heard all the possible pronunciations of “capo”. Cape-oh, carpo, capp-o… but someone I was just speaking to in a music shop pronounced it ker-POHH! and now I don’t know how to further proceed with my day

I'm loving the new season of Stranger Things but I'm obsessed with the fact that Vecna doesn't know he's called Vecna. Please Duffer Brothers can you squeeze in a scene where he says "Who is this Vecna?" or "Why do you keep calling me Vecna?" - or similar

It feels like so long since I’ve heard a coherent politician who believes in something, I almost forgot what it sounded like. Great episode.

We’re back in front of a roaring Cornish fire and this time Fin turns the tables by interviewing Tim about his parallel career as a novelist.

A: Because it saw someone from work on a Saturday.

I’m reading a long book. I’ve been reading it for so long that I’ve had several breaks in which to read other books. Last night I had a dream about finishing it and literally opening a bottle of something to celebrate, and now I’m deffo going to do that (in about 4 years I expect).
