To be fair though, regional councils have not exactly covered themselves with glory historically - look at Environment Canterbury, basically elected farmers issuing licences (to farmers primarily) to pollute and take water without restriction all through Canterbury for the last 40-50 years…dodgy af.

True - and our particularly kiwi innate in-built obsession that cheap = good value. Most NZ manufacturers can’t compete on price with the waves of foreign-manufactured tat we love to lap up.

Reading the rest of the terms (total surrender, giving up entire industrial base, gutting of army so Ukraine can be easily invaded again etc), it’s clear these terms were written in Moscow. Total capitulation from Trump.

Is the author unaware that *only some* of the tariffs imposed by The Great Orange have been rescinded, AND that, notwithstanding those tariffs, the US has been and continues to be one of the most protectionist economies that NZ exports to…? Where do we get these guys from?
