My story that was published in the Baltimore City Paper in 2015, “The Goddamn Chuck Mangione Song,” is currently camped out behind the paywall of the behemoth that bought out the City Paper. The current owner is trash and the story used to be free anyway, so here you go:
“I seen a hundred dollar bill one time
Blowin' up against a chain link fence
I been walkin' around outside lookin' down at fences ever since.”

RIP Todd Snider, a hell of a songwriter.

Is it just me or does it seem that every time we lose a famous Flo this year, one of those much-ballyhooed conservatives of influence follows in quick succession? Can’t help but wonder who the next Flomen will be. (Okay, okay, I’ll see myself out.)

First trick-or-treater of the year. No costume though. And not only that, the little brat keeps coming back for more.

Never mind the Louvre heist, everything I’ve heard about this case so far—rigged underground card games, extortion, etc.—tickles all the noir hairs. The best part—the current Justice Dept. are just the lot to completely botch the prosecutions. Now who’s got a line on that?

Fulci, a band with a taste for cinema.

RIP D’Angelo, who cut the darkest, stickiest funk track this side of the millennium, if not this side of On the Corner.

RIP Diane Keaton, fantastic in just about everything she did, particularly this. Seventy-nine seems too young. Or at least it seems too young for her anyway.

Lene Lovich at the Ram’s Head in Annapolis. Peabody’s Professor of Music in New Media was in attendance and Lene was nice enough to invite him up to play the keyboards on this one, which he wrote of course.

Stereolab at the Howard Theatre. Lots of new, a handful of favorites, and a smattering of obscurities.

Nobody really, really, really wanna zigazig ah anymore and that’s mental.
Nobody gets knocked down but gets up again and that’s sad
Nobody gets into the groove anymore and that's sad

The Sundance Kid? Of course. Jeremiah Johnson? Now enshrined forever in meme form, but sure, him too. How about Waldo Pepper? Now there’s an overlooked character. He’s streaming on something. Seek him out.

RIP Robert Redford.

RIP Bobby Hart, who along with his songwriting partner Tommy Boyce wrote a string of hits in the sixties, mostly for the Monkees. I don’t have any Monkees records. I’ll have to correct that someday. But “Stepping Stone” is on this one, so…

If you don’t see the problem with Utah Gov. Cox’s statement, then I’m afraid that the situation won’t be improving anytime soon.

Hey, if you haven’t heard, I have a story in volume 1 of Better Off Dead, a new anthology of crime fiction inspired by the songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin. My story is called “Jamaica Jerk-Off.” It’s about a jerk-off. Care to guess where it’s set?
