Yep. I could see a world where I stopped publishing but not where I stopped writing. (I’d revise a lot less.) I wrote steadily for 15 years before I published a word

For me, all the revising, editing, copyedits, proofreading, etc are the bits I don’t like (compared to drafting anyway). I do like having books on the shelves and people telling me I’m great and getting money tho so I do it

There’s a bit from one of the Spenser novels (I’m quoting loosely) where he turns down a job because he wouldn’t like doing it. Guy says “Don’t you ever do anything you don’t like?” He says “I might do something I don’t like if it let me do something I REALLY like later.” I get that

I do know “I love having written” writers and can theoretically comprehend “do something that makes you miserable in exchange for a major payoff later” but uh I’m essentially a lazy hedonist
