Interesting BBC article on Tony Pulis and data in football. Quotes include "my database was in my head"
Halfway through the article Tony talks about buying the Rothman's Football Yearbook.

They were giving away chilli peppers at a garden near me. I took home the hottest one for the novelty. Curiosity got the better of me so I tried the tiniest amount humanly possible. I am already regretting it, sweating with a feeling of impending doom.

If you are interested in how the FA reached their verdict in the Lucas Paqueta case you can read the full FA panel report here www.thefa.com/news/2025/se...
I am pleased that our evidence (some would say "compelling"!) was helpful to the FA in reaching what we believe was the correct verdict.

In an anecdote about how VVD was rejected by analysts at Palace as the data said he had no pace (pace data wasn't available at the time afaik) Warnock and the writer of the article conclude that Beckenbauer would be missed by "the stats men" as he doesn't tackle enough.

Nice time capsule or my childhood at my parent's house.
Audi Quattro scalextric, my prized remote control car and an Everton lineup circa 93/94. I clearly had high hopes for Gary Rowett as a creative 10.

Interesting to contrast the "how would he work in our team?" approach from Ian Graham's interview (which must be reliant on having a definite style/s of play) with Luke Bornn's interview about Toulouse which leaned towards supplying good players for a Head Coach to use without a strict style.

Kenny Tete signing only 5 years after our "who Everton should sign" Athletic article suggested him.
(Along with Gabriel, Ndicka, Mbeumo and some I am less keen to mention)

I am currently at war with what I now know to be a Chiffchaff.
Hiding in a tree in the allotments behind my house and just blaring out it's annoying mating call.
It isn't working, he is obviously equally annoying to female Chiffchaffs.
Has woken me at 4am daily for weeks. Prick.

Looking at our advanced data for Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham in 24/25 you would not think this was a team that struggled.
The attacking style was that of a top 6 challenger. The pressing and defensive output was OK too.

For where I would want Everton to go stylistically, this guy would be high on my list of signings.
Whether he would choose to go there is another matter.

Fair enough, I would say though when you look at players <21 putting up xG>0.3 and xA > 0.15 in top 5 European leagues in the last 6 years these are the only ones to do it.
And most are playing for good teams.
