(Full disclosure, that's an exaggeration. I actually did the math, and there's unlikely to be enough caffeine in a bag of coffee beans to be fatal to a horse).

US drug policy is weird. Jump through all kinds of crazy hoops to get relatively safe amounts of methylphenidate, because it has a high potential for abuse. But if I compulsively buy weekly bags of roasted beans from Trader Joe's, that have enough CNS stimulant inside to kill a horse, that's cool.

LOLing because I was once on 36mg Concerta, then there was a shortage, so I got my doc to prescribe 27mg that the pharmacy had in stock. And immediately developed a literal 12 cup a day coffee habit. When they had 36mg back in stock I just had my doc keep me on 27mg 'cause I really like coffee.

"Fog Pockets" is my new band name, and our debut single is "Moist Gray Burrito."

I wonder how Andrey Markov feels about this. He might have been right about the law of large numbers, but the 4.3 star rating indicates that perhaps Pavel Nekrasov is getting the last laugh anyway.

Project Plowshare might disagree with your definition of "better done". Which reminds me, I have been to both the beach and Exploding Whale Memorial Park in Florence, but I still need to check the Sedan crater off of my bucket list.

It was pretty mundane right up until the Q & A. I think "Have you ever seen a dead body?" was literally the first question.

I am reminded of the time I gave a talk to my daughters' Girl Scout Troop on what it was like being a SAR volunteer in the PNW. I was expecting the girls to be horrified and the leaders enthusiastic, and it went exactly the other way around.

I can't explain why your kiddo won't try the carrots, but marshmallows dipped in barbecue sauce sounds surprisingly good to me, so it's plausible your kid is a culinary genius. I have Stubb's spicy BBQ sauce in the fridge, and if I happen to find some marshmallows, I will report back.

I mean, I have certainly made worse decisions in my sleep, at least metaphorically speaking, so hey why not.

I am also imagining that call to EOD. "Yeah, we need you to come pick up some Comp B." "Where? A mountain." "What's it from? A nuclear device." "Yeah I'm sure there's no radiation hazard, they picked up that material 70 years ago." "No, I don't know how they got all that but missed the Comp B."

I did find this article, which is probably unrelated but also intriguing. "The LLNL team was exploring three different plane crashes that had occurred on the mountain..."

Three kind of seems like a lot, TBH.

During Space Shuttle Columbia recovery, shared an office trailer with either USFS or TFS liason. One day we overheard as he repeatedly but calmly told a caller there were no monkeys on the shuttle. After he hung up he just turned to us and said "That wasn't even the tenth strangest call this week."

Also, just to make it a little less horrifying, I didn't propose this rule in an actual high-stakes context - it was mostly (but not completely...) a joke in a Slack channel at work. I am not a psychologist (...nor do I play one on TV).

Fair enough, but my hope is that it will at least inspire the dueling parties to seek a little common ground and be a forcing function to try to understand each others' perspective. (Hope; not expectation. On the other hand, I haven't heard a single LLM-provided "I-told-you-so" since the rule...)
