And I do think there are hopeful pieces, like the spirit of solidarity that played a meaningful role (if somewhat ephemeral) in the HIPC and EU cases

You mean the motivations behind them and how they played out are bad news?

I mean sure, far from ideal, but a) unless I'm missing something there aren't other examples on this scale and b) they at least reject facile dismissals like "it will never happen" or "countries could never absorb it"

Of course many internet scams come from domestic sources, but we also set up a situation where for a lot of people their only moderately gainful way into the global economy is to try to trick its participants into directing some money their way

Maybe I shouldn’t be but I am continuously surprised by how much the pandemic has been memory holed.

Puts a different spin on those pieces from 2020 expressing curiosity how the Spanish flu didn’t leave a bigger imprint on the collective memory
