Looks to be across the markets

A month later, and Cosy has continued to be cheaper than Agile, a saving of 25%:

No cheating. Post the last photo of your pet.

Chart of my average monthly unit rate (p) over past 16 months; first 4 were on Cosy before switching to Agile in Feb '24. Significant saving to begin with, but prices crept up last autumn.

Meanwhile, Cosy price went down, and added 3rd cheap slot, so it's now better value for my setup.

I decided to dig deeper, and compare Agile prices for January 2025 vs 2024 against Cosy and Go...

Agile used to give good prices most days. No so much this year, barely managing to stay below the day rate (so far, it seems)

Might not be too bad this weekend

dT is pretty tight. Are you able to read flow rate?

I dunno. My own estimates are 37% higher (blue line) than reported by MelCloud (yellow bars), so they're missing some of the electricity - possibly the pumps (which is a configurable setting).

Need to find some systems with independent meters and compare them.

Agile saved me £770 this year, beating both Tracker and Cosy tariffs.
(Heatpump, cooking, battery, no EV)

Mine did exactly the same

It's fine, just needed a defrost to get going...

@energystatsuk.bsky.social where are the Agile prices for tomorrow? Is the API down? My own queries also failed.

Did NR turn off after 24:00? Notice now power gets spikier again, and flow temp is a tiny bit higher.
January 7, 2025 at 6:00 AM
It's quite subtle, but I reckon the start of each new cycle has a lower peak power after 00:00 - electrical draw barely above 1kW. Defrosts maybe less often, COP marginally higher, but both could be environmental.
Not detrimental at least.
January 7, 2025 at 12:26 AM
Your 5kW heat pump is running close to full power, so will be frosting up quickly, especially in 100% humidity. COP is above 3 still, which is decent.
January 5, 2025 at 6:14 PM
DHW runs at lower power, so fins frost up less quickly. Enabling 'quiet mode' might reduce power during heating, and reduce frequency of defrosts, but may affect room temperature.

Over 24 hours, defrosts have 'lost' 9 kWh of heat, though most of it gets pulled back in afterwards.
January 5, 2025 at 6:03 PM
That's good going.
I managed a COP of 4 over the same period, so you're definitely winning now!

Yeah, it's quite a roller coaster!

That's some good insulation; my house drops half a degree in an hour, so heatpump's been running every other hour.

The rectangular chart image doesn't fit so well on bluesky - it seems to prefer square ratio @zarch1972.bsky.social

I do exactly this! Works great.

I don't use HA, but imagine someone has made a thingy to do this sort of thing, and there's external services like myenergyoptimiser.co.uk
