On 7th July, we were left some Buff Ermine eggs. By 26th August all caterpillars had pupate. They were kept in our open sided shed. I check them regularly, and yesterday I was surprised to see a load of eggs in the tray. This morning they hatched.

‘So where are the beetles’ said I as we approached the fence on Holkham beach. And there on the first post were a Cabbage-stem Flea Beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala) and a Dicheirotrichus obsoletus (I think?). Nearby, a Kidney-spot Ladybird (Chilocorus renipustulatus).

On a wander through Thursford Wood, the floor was sprinkled with thousands of fallen Common Spangle Galls. This one was perfectly colour matched with the Beech leaf on which it had settled.

What do beetles do at this time of year? These 7-Spot Ladybirds have taken shelter under a leaf, whereas this pair of Rosemary Beetles have other thoughts.

Who lives in a house like this? It’s the tiny egg sac of the even more tiny spider, Paidiscura pallens.

It’s the second day in a row of seeing a Painted Lady in the garden. Very fleeting visit both times, so here’s a pic from earlier in the year.
