'The Great Halls': Bright, Twilight and Destroyed. Created last year I wanted to make art that told the story of a warm promising academy deteriorating into to a ruthless battle of betrayal. Being a Dark Souls and Bloodborne fan I loved making the final part.

The end of a long standing scholars academy overtaken by deceit and violence, culminating to a ruthless battle of betrayal. The walls crumble around the remaining fighters while the once bright red prayer tree stands dimly lit in the background. Smoke and soft moonlight filters in from the archways above. The surrounding foliage is dark and decayed. The grand halls are filled with figures clad in dark cloaks and armour, people stand in small groups whispering and arguing amongst themselves, the previous scholars in light colours are nowhere to be seen. Most of the foliage has darkened and been forgotten leaving vacant archways each side. The sun setting paints the scene a light red/orange matching the still vibrant red prayer tree in the background. Bright Halls filled with promising students and scholars, they walk and discuss important topics, they are clothed in bright cloaks in varying colours. Bright yellow trees and bushes line the side archways above and the leaves float sofly down. Warm daylight shines through and highlights the glowing red prayer tree in the back.. I may delete this because it’s a bit spicy but it shouldn’t be lost on us that games being turned into TV is essentially harvesting the stories written by those who don’t have union representation or healthcare with WGA by those that do. Our stories are good enough for TV but the writers aren’t?

2025 was my second year of oil painting every week. I’ve now done 106 weeks, approximately a painting a month.
It has taught me patience, plan my composition, values and colours. Digital it is too easy to move things around to find what you’re looking for. Oils need you to execute with conviction.
