When you describe a game solely by its mechanics or by namechecking six other games like you're naming all the different scams you're planning in Ocean's 11, you are not being an effective board game communicator
Brad Pitt as Rusty is speaking to George Clooney as Danny Ocean in the film OCEAN'S 11 (2001). They have just seen the blueprints to the vault at the Bellagio, and Danny has just outlined his plan, asking Rusty what he thinks it'll take to rob the vault. Rusty is describing, insider-baseball style, which cons and gags he thinks they'll have to run in order to pull off the heist. Each con has a celebrity name, which is shorthand for which specialists they'll need to hire. When I tout better narrative & story-based communication when teaching (or describing or critiquing) a game so that it's more inclusive & more accessible to more people, I mean "gadzooks, don't ever, ever do this"
I know this is English, but it reads like a technical manual that's intentionally designed to share misinformation. More like "there's no amazing feeling when READING," amirite?

Was it Vampire Express?

We're also doing two gamified advent calendars this year for December: Clue + Taskmaster
Closeup: one half of the Clue Advent Calendar, which is in a puzzle/escape room style. The image looks like a detective's "murder board" and is illustrated with photos, news clippings, clues, and dossier type file photos of various suspects. There is also red string connecting some of the clues to each other, Charlie Day conspiracy style. Other half of the Clue Advent Calendar. It is an overhead view of a mansion floor plan that looks like a Clue game board. On top of it are two booklets. One is the rules. The other is the storybook/clue book. Taskmaster Advent Calendar. The box itself is the calendar. It's a 3/4 illustration of the Taskmaster house and grounds, populated with various references to Taskmaster lore. The roof has snow on it. There are unopened doors all over the illustration and box, which are opened in a specific order that is only known if you complete the tasks and puzzles in the correct order. Each puzzle's answer reveals which door to open next. The object is to find Little Alex Horne over 24 "days".

Got the tree up today
A wooden Melissa and Doug holiday tree advent calendar. 24 numbered circles await 24 wooden magnetic tree ornaments to be added each day of December. A gold star is stuck to the top of the conifer. A shallow red tray is attached to the base of the tree to serve as counterweight and to store the wooden magnetic ornamemts.

Thanks for mentioning Alt Text. I can't read this w/out booting up my laptop & zooming in expeditiously. From a smartphone it's impossible unless one pinch zoom and slides their way through it, which is shorthand for "I'm not gonna read all that but I'm happy for you, or sorry that happened"

The preferred Smart TV model is through the particular TV's own browser to access The Criterion Channel.

Which TCC explicitly states at their FAQ that it probably won't work, but yeah sure give it a shot & see what happens
Fine print in the Criterion Channel streaming platform FAQ about "How Do I Watch (Criterion Channel app) on my Smart TV?" If you have a Smart TV, such as Samsung, it may not be possible to log in or play the content from the built-in internet browser. In other words, it could work, but those browsers are not among our currently supported browsers. If you’d like to try, here are the steps to watch on a Smart TV’s browser: -On your TV, open the internet browser and visit the site. -Enter your email address, submit, and you will be emailed a link. -On a separate device (i.e. another computer or mobile device), open your email inbox, open the login email, and click the LOGIN link. -Go back to your TV browser, and you should be logged in to watch. The buried lede: *If these steps don't work, then it's likely that your Smart TV will not be compatible. In this case, you can try casting via Chromecast or Airplay with Apple devices.* Note: At this time, we do not support Chromecast devices that some TVs have built-in. Pax Unplugged 2025: completed! Saw friends & made new ones. Crashed in the middle & napped all Sat afternoon. Bought & played board games, discovered Jubensha, was honored to be on a panel w/rockstars, & remembered to hydrate and eat well.

Looking forward to unpacking, unboxing, & my own bed 💤
