Side note: my dad owned his own semi briefly at the end of our farming run, and my brother who is 7 years older than me had started driving truck while I was still in school (far as I know he still drives truck) so you could say it runs in my family somewhat. But I still say I stumbled into it

Holy diver
You've been down too long in the midnight sea
Oh what's becomin' of me
Ride the tiger
You can see his stripes but you know he's clean
Oh don't you see what I mean

Another #fursuitfriday comes and goes.

This one from a screen grab from a video @cosplaymutt.bsky.social posted over on Zuckbook. Somehow my dumb coyote made the cut from the fizzy fox furry fair that was this summer. Posing with the ever popular Mr Universe van.

All said the storm raged for the better part of two days across portions of Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan and the great lakes. A thousand miles wide. A storm that survivors would never forget.

On Lake Michigan 66 sailors died when three different freighters sunk, as well as many smaller vessels. Darn those gales of November....

In total somewhere around 150 people were killed either directly or indirectly because of the storm. The full number is unknown

In Watkins, MN a passenger train and freight train collided in the blinding snow killing 2. Residents of the town formed a human chain to lead passengers to safety

My grandfather told me he remembered the snow very well. Any animal that couldn't find shelter died. The air was so thick with snow, he remembered seeing pheasants dead standing up, frozen in place. Their noses packed with snow having suffocated.

The duck hunters, ill prepared for the cold. Ended up stranded. Their boats and encampments overwhelmed by the winds that drove 5 foot waves on the Mississippi River. Duck hunters accounted for nearly half of the 49 deaths reported in Minnesota
November 12, 2025 at 1:37 AM
Survivors described the cold being so severe it burned the lungs. The air so full of moisture it was suffocating. Animals caught in it, died where they stood. Including 1.5 million turkeys destined for Thanksgiving dinner
November 12, 2025 at 1:36 AM
The weather changed very quickly and very intensely. Up to 50 degree temperature drops, up to 27 inches of snow with 20 foot tall drifts, 50-80 mph winds. Transportation ground to a halt. Telephone and power was cut. The blizzard raged overnight and into the next day
November 12, 2025 at 1:35 AM
Unfortunately at the time, weather forecasting wasn't what it is today. Midwest got it's forecasts from the office in Chicago which was east of the storm so....you know....they didn't see it coming. Plus they had been closed for the holiday as well.
November 12, 2025 at 1:34 AM
A large number were duck hunters who took advantage of the holiday and perfect temps to head out onto islands in the Mississippi River. The animals sensed the storm coming and survivors noted the sky was absolutely full of ducks racing south with the storm.
November 12, 2025 at 1:32 AM
On the morning of the 11th temps were unseasonably warm reaching 65° F by noon in some places. Tho the forecast predicted a drop in temps and snow later in the day, many folks left their homes without their coats and would be caught completely unprepared later

So let's talk about another anniversary today since I brought up the Armistice earlier. Today is also the anniversary of one of the worst storms in midwest history, the Armistice Day Blizzard of 1940

Pro wrestling story that doesn't involve wrestling. Wrestler Klondike Bill (actually from Calgary not Alaska) was a notorious big eater. Banned from many all you can eat buffets. He was one of the first people to win the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, Texas 72 Oz steak dinner challenge.
