been thoroughly looked into are his patents,inventions and his collaboration with Isambard Brunel to develop a tunneling shield to build the first Thames tunnel.Cochrane is also the inventor of the first airlock which was used in an attempt to dig a tunnel underthe Hudson river in 1879.

I will need the permission of the 15th Earl of Dundonald. Most of Cochrane's papers are not (yet) catalogued 😅. I am currently reading the manuscript of a new book which will be published in September 2026. Peter Moore, historian and writer, did a lot of research and unearthed some important bits.

Most people have only gone down a very shallow Cochrane hole. There is a superbly researched book on Cochrane about to be published next year. In the meantime I suggest to read Cordingly's COCHRANE THE DAUNTLESS for a start.
