Keep some sort of journal, even if it is a word document to recycle writing you’ve deleted.

Our perceptions are not facts. We often get our views wrong. And yet, I also fear that there is an epidemic of young people that fail to launch. They do not support themselves and live with their parents. And perhaps it is true that many young people are weak and babied by their parents. Yet, I also wonder a couple of things.

Last night I went to a Story telling night at the 602 club in Appleton. The theme of the night was Don’t Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth. The night was highly entertaining and powerful. There is something so special about hearing someone telling their story and hearing it in person. The first person talked about his family’s motto of- Be normal when you are allowed to be.

If you do not care about the harm we are doing, there is something wrong with you.

Today I forgave myself.......for not reporting..... for feeling dirty, for believing his lies.....for thinking having my virginity stolen was something to be ashamed of Today i break the cycle.

The pilgrims were failures. Losers. They were not ready for life and died (like dogs!) of sickness and starvation. The Wampanoag people came in and showed them how to survive. They fed them. The repayment, of course, was to end their way of life and dominate them. Which is bookended by the way many people have hatred for immigrants that come to our country for safety and stability.

On October 14th, I attended James Hamilton's radio show and open mic in Rockford, Illinois, despite initial hesitation. Engaging with local poets like Luke Welch and Denali was rewarding. The night featured powerful performances, including a moving poem on autism. The event highlighted the vibrant Rockford poetry culture and community pride.

Here is a post on Facebook in response to the mass shooting at the Minneapolis Church “It’s a mental health issue. These kids are constantly fed affirmations that there’s nothing wrong with them and then they get medication to change their brain chemistry. Etc etc. It’s akin to telling a schizophrenic that you’re okay and yeas I hear the voices and sometimes see things that aren’t there.

True patriotism means supporting all citizens, including those struggling, to build a respectful and safe nation for future generations.

Should you self-publish? Should you go with a small press? I have done both. With either of them, there are questions to ask. Questions to find the answer to about the small press publisher you are considering. The first question is to determine if they are legit. Google them and look at websites like Writers beware. I also recommend finding one of their authors and reaching out to them and ask them directly.

Positive thinking aids life improvement; each journey is unique, requiring self-compassion and perspective.
