One thing I haven't seen anyone draw a parallel to is language. In 1984, language was actively altered to prevent dissent.

I don't remember which platform it was, but there used to be pages that ended, and I remember telling myself, "at the end of this page I'm going to stop and go do something else."
Can't say that would work for everyone, but it did work for me.
