I like arts.. and cats.
I'd be interested to know who suggested they open it up in the first place. 👀

I have a radio alarm. I set it for five minutes past the hour rather than on the hour because I don't need to have a cloud of doom be the thing that wakes me up every morning.

Goes for sketchbooks too. Those beautiful hardcover sketchbooks are too intimidating to use. I personally get softcover sketchbooks so it still feel special but not as precious. Feels more like a tool for play rather than needing to make polished pieces.

You get to feel all accomplished for all of five minutes and then the dawning horror.

If you can't file the ends get a nail buffer and gently smooth what you do have so the top edge isn't so ragged as that's what I'm always tempted to bite. I also used nail polish while watching TV. I didn't mind cheap polish because I could peel it off a few days later without damaging anything. /2

I knocked the habit on the head by keeping nail files, cuticle cream and orange sticks everywhere. If I felt the urge to "neaten up the edges" I'd get the cream out as it kept my hands busy. /1

A 13 month calendar does divide the weeks up into neater 4 week chunks though. So each month would start on a Monday, with one or two days left over at the end of the year, depending on whether it's a leap year or not.

/2 That's an insane amount on expectation and pressure to put on yourself. I do also think that because of educational testing in our youth it makes people afraid to fail. Give yourself goals if you need that structure but don't forget to enjoy the journey.

/1 Growth mindset vs a Fixed mindset and it can apply to all sorts of things including art. I've seen similar attitudes when it comes to learning new skills like playing an instrument. They look too far towards the end goal and beat themselves up for picking up the tool and not instantly being good.

The Nintendo DS/3DS was pretty peak gaming wise. Lots to dig your teeth into.

"Cloud Dancer" sounds a lot more whimsical than light greige. A triumph in marketing, I'll give them that.

Looks great. It was worth the effort.

It also reinforces the attitude that if you can't draw it perfectly then you might as well not try at all.

It is a bit of a "stuck between a rock and a hard place" situation. Especially if you want to keep open the option of getting hired in a full time role.

What I've been doing the last few years is buying a code on Amazon during the Black Friday sales as it seems to be the cheapest price that I've seen. However I'm in the UK and using the student version so I don't know if the non-student version is as competitively priced.

/2 But yes get your fundamentals down with graphite. I did GCSE Art mostly just with graphite pencil because that's what I could afford. Or just have fun. I think we sometimes get too bogged down on needing to get gud that we forget to have fun with it.

/1 It surprised me when the people of the internet told me that Crayola were the cheap colouring pencils. For kid me they were #goals. I had poundshop colour pencils where the wood would get shredded to pieces when you sharpened them.

Oh it's awful isn't it. If anyone else had written it we wouldn't still be listening to it all these years later.

And it would actually be pronounced Floor'um.
