Delighted to announce that my first book, THE LIE OF THE LAND, is due for publication on September 4th next via @penguinrandomhouse.bsky.social.

It's a frank assessment of Ireland and the #Climate emergency, with a roadmap towards a more food and energy-secure future.
Mass murder is an interesting way of “testing a fragile ceasefire”.
Incredible how international media continues to provide cover for Israel’s ongoing genocide, despite all the evidence.

John’s observation that “we’re concerned but complacent” about climate change was at the heart of their conversation. Their vital work should not be at the fringes of political discourses @thinkorswim.bsky.social @whittledaway.bsky.social

A brilliant event here yesterday with two of the most distinguished environment commentators in the country - John Gibbons & Pádraic Fogarty. @thinkorswim.bsky.social @whittledaway.bsky.social

Had a great afternoon in @booksupstairs.bsky.social today, in conversation with @whittledaway.bsky.social to discuss THE LIE OF THE LAND.

Packed event, standing room only. Many thanks to Pádraic for skilfully guiding the conversation.

“Please, please don’t mention the 10,000 litres of fossil fuels I’m transporting, let’s talk instead about how ‘green’ the 100 litres of HVO that fuels this lorry is”.

Decent crowd gathering in rainy conditions on Dublin’s Parnell Square for today’s #climate march. It all kicks off shortly.
November 15, 2025 at 1:17 PM
Looks like Simon Harris’s ongoing meltdown is accelerating. This latest nonsense actually manages the tough task of insulting & infantilising the very farmers he claims to be “standing up for”, who he clearly thinks are eejits.

Rain or shine, 1pm tomorrow at the Garden of Remembrance is the place to be for the big #climate demonstration, a chance to remind our politicians that this crisis hasn’t gone away.

Pod of this week’s Last Word on the environment now available. Apart from #climate coverage, I also put the boot into ESB e-cars over its dire billing system.

Also discussed (daft) ideas about adding an orbital motorway outside the M50 in Dublin.

Very much looking forward to this conversation with @whittledaway.bsky.social around THE LIE OF THE LAND this Sunday from 2pm in @booksupstairs.bsky.social in Dublin City centre.

Do come along if you’re free.

For anyone who missed it a couple of weeks back, this is...priceless.

What's truly funny is how many politicians are still convinced these self-interested agri lobbyists hold *massive sway* with the people in rural Ireland.

New CCAC #climate report covered on multiple RTÉ news bulletins just now, incl. Morning Ireland interview with chair, Marie Donnelly.

Total mentions of agriculture, Ireland’s largest source of emissions: zero.
November 13, 2025 at 9:05 AM
Emissions will not drop significantly unless herd sizes do & society-wide pivot to a plant-based foods. "Ultimately, we need a more diversified agricultural model, with fewer cattle, more horticulture, organics & tillage".

Am quoted in AFP report on France24 today.

Very enjoyable visit to the Cavan & Monaghan Science Festival today, where I discussed some of the ideas for a #climate resilient future Ireland, as explored in THE LIE OF THE LAND. Librarian Ellie Flood chaired the session.

Did an interview with Joe Finnegan on Shannonside Radio from the side of the road en route to Cavan this morning to discuss #COP30 and to debate with INHFA re. Its dismissive approach to the issue.

On the road to Cavan town shortly to take part in Cavan-Monaghan Science Festival, where I'll be discussing THE LIE OF THE LAND and a new vision for Ireland in the #climate emergency.

Valuable lesson here from one-time #climate “hero” Bill Gates: never, ever trust billionaires – on any subject. Only thing they care about is themselves, as I explained to Matt Cooper yesterday.

Oh, and not sure about Micheál Martin either.
