How can a small, everyday practice in a classroom make a world of difference for a migrant child?

I wrote about this for EERA, drawing from my PhD research. In a world often hostile to immigrants, these subtle shifts are vital to fostering a strong sense of #belonging.
New on our blog: Migrant children experience schools as both sites of inclusion and exclusion. Thi Bogossian shows how schools can become oases of belonging in hostile environments. https://blog.eera-ecer.de/migrant-children/ #ECER2025 #EduSci @beranews.bsky.social

Jean Charles de Menezes was killed by armed police in London in 2005, mistaken for a suicide bomber. The prejudice which led to that error persist, affecting Latin Americans and contributing to exclusion, unjustified arrests, & deportations ✍️ ‪

20 years ago, UK police mistook an unarmed Brazilian man for a suicide bomber and shot him dead. The structures that killed him still exist in indefinite detention, medical neglect, and re-traumatisation.

I'm delighted to share that I've been awarded the 2024 Best ECR Paper Award at the @ecer-eera.bsky.social!

My paper feels especially urgent as migration becomes increasingly politicised and migrant communities face hostile policies around the world.

With Leeds Trinity and Loughborough we're now actually at 83, or exactly half of the 166 universities @timeshighered.bsky.social counts.

HALF OF OUR UNIVERSITIES ARE SHEDDING STAFF. In a normal timeline, politicians would care about this and try to do *something*, *anything*, right?
