They really do... I am a (bad) 3D modeller/printer, hopefully improving DM, Father, Stepfather, Husband, Son, Brother - I follow people who say interesting things or make models that make me jealous, and block the uninteresting, unpleasant or irritating.
My daughter had a pet axolotl - she named him Lando 😁

Does anyone else find the ship depicted in that thumbnail nauseating?
November 17, 2025 at 9:23 AM
I honed my 3D building by modelling the same damn ship 15 times (TOS Enterprise) - old ideas never die, they are merely polished 😁

I first became aware of the Orion drive from Carl Sagan's Cosmos TV series and book. I thought it was nuts. Then I saw footage of the testing, and still thought it was nuts...

For barely understanding it, you appear to have the aesthetics down pretty well 😁

That sounds like a set-up for a tricorder (?)

Props are funny - most movie or TV props are ropey as hell close up, or at least were - arguably a prop made for a paying customer or indeed yourself has to be much higher quality.

I'm excited by the possibilities, but figure that I need to get the models good first - The Fermi is being quite well-received but there's still work to do (I'd also want any electronics in a phaser for example to be... ambitiously cool, like sounds and lit status displays etc)
November 15, 2025 at 10:14 PM
I barely understand basic circuitry, and that's vague remembrances from my school days - I find the stuff that people like @admiralbuck.bsky.social build into their models just as amazing as the models themselves - lit shuttlebays with landing lights? Good lord!

*brain - it's getting late and I didn't caffeinate today lol
November 15, 2025 at 9:58 PM
Not yet, though I'd like to - my grain keeps wandering to how I'd fit them into this one. The construction is such that you'd put in the rear liner, then the batteries and electronics, and then insert the emitter array. I need 'Electronics for Dummies' 😁

That would rock in VR...

It's actually not bad - because it's oblong in cross-section you have a good feel for its orientation, and it IS possible to aim. A little hard on the wrists though. It puts me in mind of an early Blakes 7 blaster... I can see myself building a power-boosting stock/handle attachment for it.

It may be my favourite game of all time - admittedly I play in VR with a heavily modded build but the core is just so strong...

Prototype was about 4-5 cm too small, but the inner liner fitted nicely into the outer sleeve, so I was pleased with that:

I hear it ate one of the engineers 😁

BTW, I think this is a given, but the only assistance AI gave me for this project was a bloody-minded impetus to do it all manually 😁

While an interesting challenge, and despite my love of Cthulhiana, I'm not sure what I can do with something that's non-euclidian and only partially there?
