had to be done! can't be helped!

yeah, i feel like there's sort of a mutual incomprehension -- haven folks are all "at least it's not your touch which is causing destruction" derry folks are all "at least your children are not getting dragged down to the sewers to be sewerclown chewtoys"

oh, i kind of love that as a reason -- the towns are slightly different, why shouldn't the outdoor-wear brand of local manufacture be slightly different, too? (one thing that slays me about the show is when they mention Derry up the road -- oh yeah, that town is ALSO cursed it's a regional thing)

(the christmas in july episode?? too good. no notes. hysterics. the bit with the dress-like-a-local care package for audrey including fluffy boots that were not bean boots? simply incorrect)

(the maine things it gets right vs wrong are a fun side-hobby for me, too)

an object of my particular fascination is just how much lucas bryant moves his face when he's not being nathan -- the thing that reads at first as kind of wooden leading-man energy is so carefully crafted to convey a style of guy-from-maine repression that's deeply true to life

💖💖💖💖💖 themmmmmm (also!! hi you!!!)

expected to do them at the rate you eventually will be until you get the hang of them. but to echo another person, in this thread, it really depends on the place!
February 7, 2026 at 4:10 PM
i think a part of it depends on if you're being hired to replace someone who's gone, versus to supplement a structure that's already in place. in my experience, the best places have more of a ramp-up period than a true training period, where you start doing things fairly early, but you're not

forEVER. gosh, they love each other so much and so do *I*
February 7, 2026 at 4:02 PM
hiiiiiiiiiiii, seems like perhaps you know my best friends, audrey, duke and nathan

rather than characters following narrative patterns, which is such a fun and weird tension in something that's largely structured like a monster-of-the-week...
February 7, 2026 at 3:54 PM
oh man, i would love to chat about it if you do! it's a lovely balance betwn an adventure-of-the-week show and a big arc plot that starts to build sort of in the background, and the characters just keep getting deeper and more interesting the more leeway you give them to be people having reactions
February 7, 2026 at 3:53 PM
(but also maybe a little bit as a warning that there may eventually be fic, because i LOVE diving headfirst into a long dead fandom and pretending it's only napping)
February 7, 2026 at 3:16 PM
&the last third of the time is just because the show is a ridiculous mid-budget syfy show from the twenty-teens that doesn't always manage to transcend its medium, but the uncertainty of it is just so delicious to me -- so i'm breaking my silence here mostly just to let you know what i'm sparing you
February 7, 2026 at 3:15 PM
it's one of those beautiful, infuriating shows where it feels, on the surface, kind of cheesy and clumsy, but if you keep watching long enough you notice that 2/3rds of the time, the things that look cheesy/clumsy/accidental are intricately crafted specific choices in a long, delicate, slow build
