managing Xbox Live meant knowing the schedule of other entertainment options - books, TV, movies, etc. As an example - we'd see a major drop in usage at the start of the Super Bowl, a brief hard spike at halftime, followed by another drop until the game was out of reach or over.

oh, it is. If you're going to splurge anywhere the place where there's a tactile interface is the right place to splurge IMO. The right keyboard, the right switches, the right keycaps... makes me want to use my computer.
