Banjo features in the @goveganworld.bsky.social New Year campaign. We are sharing this photo so others will recognise that he, and all the animals we use, are feeling beings who share our fundamental rights not to be owned, used, harmed or killed. Be vegan.

Betty, enjoying her life last April. She was such a beautiful sheep. We miss her.

Goodbye Betty

At long last little Frankie has joined a group of sheep and she is delighted with herself. It has been such a long and arduous journey for her to recover and she put up with months of treatment and confinement with good grace. We hope she will be with us, symptom free, for a long time.

As we watch Blackie and Aengus' lovely friendship and funny antics, it is easy to forget their sad histories of exploitation at the hands of the humans who bred them into this world. But it is a mark of their self-determination that they are able to live such enjoyable and fulfilling lives.

Coco has grown into a beautiful young sheep. She looks a little different to when she first came to us, but her friendly, fun loving character is the same.

Mr James is one of the nicest characters at Eden.

Polly is the nearest Red will ever have to her own daughter, all of whom were taken from her by the dairy industry she was born into. She is getting a chance at Eden to have a relationship with someone who will never be taken from her, as is her right.

We've had some beautiful mornings at Eden recently.

We start work very early at Eden. Holly is the first friend we greet. It is always lovely to see her relaxed and well in her barn first thing in the morning before letting her out for the day.

Polly has already gown up considerably since this photo was taken. The lives of the animals who live at Eden are of much shorter duration than our own. That is one of the reasons we work in service to them, to make every minute of those lives as good as we possibly can for them.

Please consider donating towards the cost of keeping hens like Cinderella well. Our hen implant programme is very expensive but it makes a world of difference to the quality of life and lifespans of the hens who live here. Thank you.

Cupcake has recovered from her surgery for an impacted crop. She and Red spent a week in one of our hospital cubicles and have now moved back to their own aviary. Cupcake was beyond excited to be back. Thanks to Dee at Acorn House Veterinary Clinic for the very successful surgery.

Cormac has been feeling the cold during the recent spell of hard frost. Thankfully he has the shelter and comfort of a barn at all times and a ready supply of hay. He has also been getting extra calories from grain to help him warm up.

Look at Blackie's trusting, inquisitive face. He has recovered well from the ordeal of his early life when hunters shot his family and herd leaving him as the sole and very vulnerable survivor. Now his only irritation in life is when Aengus gets into the hay bell and lies on top of the nice bits.

Few people eating the body of a turkey or pig this Christmas will think about how they died. From years experience of living with them at Eden, I know that no matter how petrified they were, they would have had the courage to resist and fight against being killed with every fibre of their being.

‘As long as animals are framed as units of production rather than individuals w interests of their own, policy will only ever adjust the terms of their use, never end it’

🎯 Welfarism stalls actual justice. If you genuinely care about the well being of animals - live accordingly and go vegan ⚖️
Welfare reform doesn’t end exploitation, it stabilises it. By banning the worst images of confinement, the state protects an industry under pressure and calls it compassion.

Please consider donating to our Matching Donations Christmas Appeal before the end of December. Every amount donated will be doubled by a generous donor so your donation will be worth twice as much to the animals @thevegansanctuary.bsky.social. Thank you.

In this cold weather, who can blame Geoffrey for bringing half his bed with him when Alanna arrived with his lunch?

We didn't have any photos of Henry that suited this year's calendar but he remains one of our all time favourite people at Eden nonetheless.
