The devastating, lyrical "One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This" is as good a book about our current moment as I've read, and @jessielilley.bsky.social @rachelwithers.bsky.social and I are so lucky to have Omar El Akkad on Spin Cycle tonight.

This was one of the proudest moments of my writing career, getting one of the best things I've ever written, into Meanjin, alongside figures as diverse as Max Kaiser, Grace Chun (oh and Shaun Micallef): meanjin.com.au/essays/pop-m...

Fully preparing for this to be my "Dewey defeats Truman" but today I had a quick look at just how long the Democrats have been relying on Trump's health to do what they cannot.

More to come from me on this - "music legend obituaries" has been a busy sad beat this week - but for now, a reminder of what Brian Wilson gave us, in its purest form. Vale.

This piece from @keanebernard.bsky.social is the kind of thing that made me a Crikey fanboy before I worked here. Exquisite writing, unerringly targeted:

Currently reading Mark Whittaker's Smoktown - a portrait of the "other Black Renaissance" in Pittsburgh in the first half of the 20th century.

It's a pure delight; a roaring tale of powerbrokers, opportunists and geniuses and a poignant picture of what they made possible.

IN light of some of the more alarming appointments to Trump's upcoming cabinet, I looked at the first time around. I loved the way, when the inevitable falling out happened, Trump would so specifically contradict what he'd said when he'd hired them
