Active user and almost-pseudo-dev on Freenet - Now Hyphanet - for a couple decades.
The main problem here is that browsers refused to implement freenet:<key> style URI support, then politics happened and now we're HyphaNet anyway. It takes browser hacks to implement proper auto-redirecting to a node, but *could* be done with some simple javascript and a node address in settings.

SSKs (Signed Subspace Keys) are like KSKs, but use a private upload key to put multiple files under one download key that (presumably) nobody else can control. This is how things like personal websites or trusted software updates work.

USKs (Updatable Subspace Keys) are just special-formatted SSKs.

*CHKs (Content Hash Keys) point to one specific revision of a file. The key does depend on some metadata, so things like changing the file name can give you a different key.

KSKs (Keyword Signed Keys) point to immutable content, but can point to something different if that key dies and is replaced.

It was made to allow anonymity, but you do not have to be anonymous. Ego stroking is a bit difficult, though, since there is no way to track views. There's also limited storage; anything not recently requested falls out as new content is inserted. Large sites or galleries will need some maintenance.

Hyphanet (was: Freenet) is a decentralized platform that allows for self-publication of content without needing to maintain 24/7 connectivity.

It feels very Web 1.0 since all data is content-addressed (static) and does not allow javascript/tracking/cookies/etc. (i.e. no commerce)

I see it in much the same vein as the original Roadster. It's kinda useless, but without the threat of it we wouldn't have any of the other electric trucks out there. By the time my 2018 Model 3 becomes a paperweight, I should be able to buy something even better for half the price. Thanks Tesla.

Ah, because there were a couple of points in the talk where it was to the effect of "no other overlay network that I know of does this" when Freenet (Hyphanet) was doing it decades ago, and still is. Nodes are equal, everything's encrypted, node references are signed, there are signed subspaces, etc
