But most generations today have basically been conditioned to believe humanity cannot exist without burning coal, oil and gas, even though all three of them are historically very recent.

Fatalists (whether from the fossil industry or just volunteers) set their mind to helping preserve this belief

shaving a few ppm off coal in this is barely detectable in the ultimate atmospheric co2 ppm as it get mixed around with land-use shifts: we have to make WAY BIGGER changes before this even turns up in ppm

We’re watching a shift where AI simulates the cohesion and reinforcement that used to require an entire online community. A single person can now build a complete parallel reality with nothing more than a prompt window. Which seems bad.

It is the architecture of disordered discourse, automated.

And, of course, CC's thesis is that the biggest way tech companies miss the next wave is by being unwilling to cannibalize their cash cows. Example after example in his paper and book were exactly that. Companies insisting that their cash cows were more important than the big new thing.
