CM Amy Peck has given up enforcing the no applauding rule. Lots of searing public comments. At one point the mayor left the room and the crowd started chanting + demanding he return and listen.

the bike lane hysteria is completely unacceptable. Park on a side street, learn how to NOT to hit the curb- get a grip.

a 14 year old boy was abducted and removed from his family for weeks and the mayor called the system a "national model": www.houstonchronicle.com/opinion/edit...
Houston police broke a family. Whitmire calls it a national model. | Editorial
At the end of the day, a mother is still without her son tonight. A scared teen is still without his mom. For no good reason. Shouldn’t that be of concern to Houston's leaders?

A pride crosswalk speaker asked the audience to raise their hands if the Whitmire administration has made their lives harder or hurt them and at least half of the room shot an arm up LMAO. Mood changed in the room, everyone was laughing and applauding.

Speaker shares how the removal of Austin st bikeway has made it harder and more dangerous to get to downtown, discouraging visiting discovery green among other attractions. Points this the red line’s being sabotaged- what transportation options are still available to midtowners?

@PureJustice_HTX is here in numbers pointing out how seemingly ordinary traffic stops are resulting in violent police arrests, ICE calls or worse. This is what an enforcement only approach to traffic violence will result in.

@LINK_Houston presented their petition calling on the city to restore the red line’s signal priority. 670+ have signed pleading for reliable, speedy, rapid transit. The city has restored transit signal priority in most of midtown/downtown but not all of them

Apartment ordinance is on the agenda. This ord would put slumlords on notice and fine them or take their license to sell if basic safety isn’t guaranteed. There have been changes made since @CMPlummer4 introduced it weeks ago, softening the punishments, complicate enforcement

Final list is 105 speakers. ~15 speaking on the removed pride crosswalk, 8 on the proposed apartment inspection ordinance by CM Plummer, 5 on red line signal priority, only 5 on the superhub, 10 on 'non safety traffic stops' (maybe this is about the ICE raids?), 4 on polk st

I’ve had a lot of this explained to me by smarter people, this thread is more for me to organize my own thoughts. Sorry for subjecting you to them 😁

Happy national week without driving

For an admin with a “mandate”” for high quality public services and efficiency, this is the opposite of what should be done. If metro doesn’t want to provide high quality service, why am I choosing to ride it? It’s undignified for the rider and utterly irrational, wasteful public policy.
