I just want some tech stuff and a lot of Arsenal related content, without idiots and bigots, getting involved..
IGN is probably not run by an actual person anymore and is just a fucking bot..
it would explain why they keep posting the same stuff multiple times

So apparently, yes it was offside but the tech is configured to accept that 😆

Why did Florian Wirtz's 'offside' equaliser for Liverpool at Fulham stand?
Florian Wirtz thought his goal for Liverpool in the 2-2 draw at Fulham was offside - so how did technology allow it to stand?

But it seems odd, since most news and fan engagement will be right after the match 😅

Even so, they have had plenty of time to correct it. Must be a different approach or maybe a mistake with this specific situation.
January 4, 2026 at 8:36 PM
That just seems completely at odds with how xG is designed..

Ive even talked to @scott.cannonstats.com at some point, and he was kind enough to clarify it at the time.

It wouldn’t make any sense to have it work the way FotMob apparently uses it
January 4, 2026 at 8:34 PM
Wasn’t a criticism btw, was meant to be informative, just in case that wasn’t clear.
January 4, 2026 at 8:31 PM
That’s not how they calculate xG, it can never go above 1 even with chained shots
January 4, 2026 at 8:28 PM
I’m just referring to the original post, stating thicker lines are used.
And then a still image that doesn’t quite match with the in-game one🤷🏻‍♂️
January 4, 2026 at 6:27 PM
I’m not saying that’s what happened here ffs 😆
I’m just saying it’s still very much a manual process, after the SAOT system has done the preliminary work.
That’s simply how the system operates, and it appears it’s not good enough to not need thicker lines, yet.
January 4, 2026 at 6:23 PM
Apparently you can just adjust the width of the line, to ease some of the decision making..
Not saying that it’s wrong, necessarily, but it seems an arbitrary way to judge something
January 4, 2026 at 6:21 PM
Yes, suggest it for manual processing..
We’ve all seen all the jokes about Lewandowski having clown feet, because the system couldn’t tell the difference between different feet.
January 4, 2026 at 6:19 PM
Sure thing, please explain how the text isn’t saying that for close calls they use operators and not an automatic process 😂
I’m always open to learning something new

January 4, 2026 at 6:10 PM
This is literally from the PL themselves mate 😂
January 4, 2026 at 6:08 PM
Except it wasn’t only SAOT, as it’s refs doing the work manually whenever it’s close..
As per their official guidelines for SAOT
January 4, 2026 at 6:08 PM
Per the PL: “To determine close offside calls, the VAR currently needs to work with replay operators (RO) to manually determine the "kick-point" for the offside decision and then "draw" calibrated lines with a crosshair on the relevant defender and attacker, using multiple camera angles”
January 4, 2026 at 6:06 PM
They use both, the PL have chosen to do things differently than every other league, as usual..
January 4, 2026 at 6:04 PM
I hate literally seen the same refs forgetting to draw the lines in the same box, and award a goal against Arsenal..
January 4, 2026 at 6:01 PM
I do think a line that’s been present for the entire season, and has a huge group of professionals maintaining it, has a better chance of being a precise line, than a ref in a box. Especially given how much shit they miss in any given match🤷🏻‍♂️
January 4, 2026 at 6:00 PM
Usually I’m struggling with red/green, or two much white in both strips, but with these two I’m actually fine..
But yes, they have clear guidelines, and they simply ignore it for shirt sponsorships
January 4, 2026 at 5:56 PM
What do you want me to call it 😂
It’s not done via a graphic, it is a physical thing that’s tangible and “permanent”
January 4, 2026 at 5:52 PM
Same approach I have had to it for years, nobody wins by them spending 5 minutes with a ruler and then end up still sort of guessing..

But this call is easy to spot, and all the players seemed content with the call straight away. It’s just such a shame for Fulham, who could use the 3 points
January 4, 2026 at 5:37 PM
The two very obvious ways are both rather dumb😅
Bad at their jobs, or corrupt - It’s just too bad a call to say “woopsie my bad”, and have Fulham and their fans just accept it.
They have replays and different angles, they at least have to explain the discrepancy to Fulham..
January 4, 2026 at 5:33 PM
Given that the TV studio is pretty on point with that stuff, I would be surprised if it’s off to be honest.
It’s a big difference between the two feet, and the VAR graphic just doesn’t match with the TV still image at all
