I had posted this (bad) ASCII drawing in Gopher Slack a while ago, with a spectrum of how explicit & noticeable some error proposals are.

I suspect a winning error proposal needs to be on the left-hand side of this diagram, and closer to current Go error handling in terms of how noticeable it is.
