Meanwhile, Israel and the U.S. pushed to end UNIFIL’s mission in southern Lebanon. The UN Security Council voted to phase out the mandate over the next two years.

Without the peacekeeping mission, even limited safety measures available to southerners will cease to exist.

On June 10, an Israeli drone strike killed Mohammad Kanaan and his son Wael while they herded cattle near Chebaa.

The area was well-known grazing land... Now, shepherds no longer go there, fearing they might meet the same fate.

Khalil Hamdan’s 10 dunums of tobacco fields, which once earned him $10,000 a year, had dried up, and an Israeli airstrike reduced the home he built for his family to rubble.

“We can’t keep watching our hard work wither away every 10 to 15 years because of Israel,” he said.

In Chebaa, Khodor Zahra’s cactus farm dried out, his goats died from toxic fumes or starvation, and his orchard yielded nothing. He sold a small piece of land to buy a few new goats, and his mother sold her gold to repair their small dairy plant.

Ghaleb Hajj returned to Houla to find his wheat flattened, animals gone, and his home destroyed. Israel used white phosphorus to burn his olive groves. He now hers other people’s livestock — afraid to walk beyond 500 meters from his house.

The list hasn’t been published yet. Each name undergoes a rigorous multi-source review under a “data correction” policy to ensure accuracy and protect the victims and their families. “It’s the first step toward protecting the truth from being lost,” says Layla Yammine.

In the absence of a national public effort to record and memorialize these lives, this project reaffirms that the martyrs are not just numbers; it seeks to establish a precise record, building a foundation to pursue justice.

To compile this information, the team tapped into every open source: WhatsApp groups supplied by journalists on the ground, village Facebook groups, field reports, and visuals from bombed areas.

Over 4000 names have been compiled, but the list of martyrs remains incomplete. Each entry goes through a multi-stage verification process before being listed. Classifications, such as ‘civilian,’ ‘child,’ ‘journalist,’ were drafted yet may be withheld to protect privacy and prevent misuse of data.
