Annie Leonard & Andre Carothers are writing a book that is a tribute to peaceful protest, and a call to defend this crucial democratic right. Coming from Patagonia books in April 2026.
Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych was stripped of his Olympic accreditation for wearing a helmet of memory. Our book exists for moments exactly like this, when people feel the weight of injustice but are told there’s “no place” for it.

Meet Annie Leonard: the mind behind The Story of Stuff and a relentless force challenging our consumption-driven economy for decades. From factories to landfills to policy tables, she’s been doing the work—including the release of our book. Stay tuned!

The streets sparked it, and the Grammy’s amplified it.

Our forthcoming book--Protest! Respect It, Defend It, Use It--is a what celebration of what collective action can achieve.

Stay tuned for more. Just Protest.

16 years ago this week, the Supreme Court ruled in the infamous Citizens United case. If you want a refresher on how it opened the floodgates for corporate money to (further) pollute our politics, watch this.

Do you all know right wing Trump advisor Chris Rufo? In the Substack post below, he called for using "unmarked vans to follow key agitators and snatch them from the streets while the media are not looking." This sounds like something from history or Pinochet's Chile; but it could happen here. 1/2

40 yrs ago today, French Secret Service agents bombed Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Auckland, killing beloved photographer Fernando Pereira. The ship and crew were preparing to protest French nuclear testing in the Pacific. It wasn't OK to attack peaceful protesters then and it isn't OK now.

Sometimes a protest is simply having the moral clarity and courage to bear witness to a wrong.
Here is the grad speech that NYU is now withholding the student's diploma for:

"As I search my heart today in addressing you all…the only thing that is appropriate to say in this time and to a group this large is a recognition of the atrocities currently happening in Palestine."
