I don't think it's rude. You should ask just to know if they'll finish, or if they could possibly refund it if they don't feel like they could finish. Just so you can know.

Honestly it's super situational imo. It all hinges on the player base. Cause I've seen some where you won't get any engagement, but others where people are excited to see new people playing, and engage all the time.
