👥How do patient support groups complement medical care?

Patient support initiatives help bridge the natural gap between healthcare providers and patients. People often open up more freely to peers who share similar experiences.

🫶🏽Is there a patient experience that stayed with you?
I’ve seen patients who had every opportunity to improve yet were held back by social and cultural barriers. Without support systems, some patients struggled to continue, reminding me how essential community and understanding are beyond treatment.

📆From your experience, what challenges do patients face in accessing care?

In a country with relatively equitable healthcare access, the challenge often lies in maintaining consistency in treatment. Compliance is not just about taking medication—it's also navigating daily life alongside treatment.

🧠What does supporting patient communities mean to you?

Not long after my diagnosis with chronic myeloid leukemia, I was introduced by The Max Foundation to patients, caregivers, and a healthcare nurse. I recognized that empowering patients with knowledge is critical to achieve long-term outcomes.
