Hello Australia! It's nice to be back.

It's less nice that I missed my connection and was rebooked on JetStar

Who is under-studied or forgotten? Australasia, South America, cormorants, divers, grebes, southern storm-petrels.

Which reflects biases in studies species, and who goes to conferences.

Want to make seabird science better? Let's get the forgotten/under-represented numbers down!
October 25, 2025 at 9:51 AM
And *another* 70 that were NEVER MENTIONED. These are the forgotten species. *THIS* should be a collective area of focus!

(Not to say no one is working on them, but that information isn't disseminated through conference talks/posters)
October 25, 2025 at 9:51 AM
We found 70 species that were statistically under-represented...

We should collectively show them some love!
October 25, 2025 at 9:51 AM
We found 16 species were statistically overly represented in conference abstracts with Common Murre/Guillemot leading the way *by far*.

They're cute, but not THAT cute...

(and also delicious)
October 25, 2025 at 9:51 AM
Hey seabird folks - have you ever thought "*ANOTHER* talk about ?!" So did we.

So we reviewed 3000 conference abstracts to see which species get the spotlight. Huge work from @ingridpollet.bsky.social with me and @seabirdsentinel.bsky.social
