Finished the first part of season 5 of Stranger things. It was ok, I do not like the maya hawke comedy caper sideline that she has been pushed into. But it builds up steadily and the last episode has some big bangs in it but it does feel a bit predictable.

Diving back into Stranger things for season 5, liked the last season, let’s see if this one can try and be good also.

Rewatched the Hollow Man, it’s alright. It has some good moments and Paul Verhoven’s direction is playful and subversive under the noses of the studio system and that is quite fun.

Watched the long walk. It’s not great. It’s very thin that alludes to a bigger world but doesn’t give you enough and it feels disconnected from what it is trying to say which is a pretty straight forward battle royal situation. Some moments when I was emotionally engaged but the ending was dumb.

Rewatched Glen Gary Glenn Ross, it is a great film with a brilliant performance by Lemon and Pacino and Spacey is strangely believable as an unlikable asshole.

Finished Season 5 of Slow Horses. Not as good as the previous standard but still solid. No real shifts in dynamics so a bit predictable but with a new enemy, but I still enjoyed it.

Watched Horror Express with Lee and Cushing, that it was going to be stupid but it was actually great, really great score, monster and general vibe, ending is a bit dumb but generally really good.

Watched the original Haunting, it’s very beautiful, amazingly shot, that famous white zombie quote but the leads head is quite a difficult place to be and I was glad when she died.

Watched Frankenstein. It’s OK. Lots of lovely design and some good moments but it labours on the wrong things and the lead is annoying, the monster is odd and it just doesn’t move you enough.

Halloween 2 is actually quite a cool film. It is a really good idea and they really overlook this in the remakes. I really like how it just starts straight from the start of the first one. A few too many stupid moments, and the scalpel is a pretty weak follow up from the giant kitchen knife.

Finished Alien Earth. I hated it. So many bad choices, I have no idea why I keep going back to that franchise.

The first Halloween is done. It is an odd film. Some great moments, some weird bits, it labours on some elements in a very strange way but it is pretty good.

Eddington is an interesting film but also a really difficult watch, two and a half hours is a really long time to spend with an unlikable idiot.

Watched Eden because Jude Law was in it. It is interesting story but it doesn’t really get into the guts of it enough, it needs more depth in the characters. It is a fascinating story, but it doesn’t stick with you after the film has finished.

Also finished Smoke on Apple TV a little while back. Started off slow, got really good and then took a turn for the worse and ended poorly but it has some great moments and the cast was great.

Finished Season 4 of the Bear. I am not sure about the ending, it doesn’t feel right to me but it was still a spectacularly good bit of telly, one of my favourite shows of this century.

Rewatched 2 and 3 of the Bourne trilogy, gets a little formulaic towards the end but a fucking brilliant trilogy, fantastic stuff.

Watched The Thursday Murder club, it was OK, the Netflix shiny tv movie quality is quite shit, lots of great actors in it, the hogwarts of retirement homes, but there isn’t too much to it.

Watched the F1 movie, Brad Pitt does Steve McQueen in a movie trying to make F1 fun. It’s not bad if you don’t scratch the surface too much. Very well shot, looked pretty so that is something.

Finished Season 3 of the Bear. It is such an incredible show and what they do with time in the program is so good, it is brilliant.
