And that's a second one I've never even heard of. The streets of London never cease to amaze.

Looks like a couple of old Phyllonorycter platani leafmines on one of those fallen leaves 🍁

Fabulous image! I've just been reading up on these, some incredible adaptations relating to their miniaturised life style. Parasitising thrips eggs, good grief whatever next! 😊

Unreal 👍

Even more bizarre, I found it new to Surrey in 2003. Reckon we could start a club? 😂

But what of the Mompha?? Also you need to rename your blog, maybe Not Quite But Getting Ever Closer Scilly? 🤔😊

Danny the Pirate bottled it at the last moment, but he very almost sat on it too 🤣

I sat on top of Nicodemus' Knob one morning, after indulging in far too many beers the night before. It's a lovely sensation 😄

Welsh Poppy for me too. So that's a chap in England seen it, and a chap in Scotland seen it. Anyone from Wales seen one this month yet? 😅

I'm on 13 species. Not convinced I'll be able to keep up 😄

Make that P.cyanoloma. One day I'll catch up 😂
November 1, 2025 at 9:47 PM
Agreed. Almost all large D.cyanoloma here on Skye have Normandina on them.

I think you'd need to leave it at Siphona sp. There are several in the genus and even with a microscope they are not at all straightforward to get to species.

There's a handbook to cloud identifocation, freely available online as a download. It's actually pretty cool! I have it saved on my laptop, I can ping you a link when I'm next home again.

Cloud types are given species names, rather bizarrely. Yours is a type of cirrus cloud, but I don't know what subspecies is involved. I'm not kidding, species and subspecies of clouds. Love it! 😄

My good friend who had been to Chile informs me the word is pronounced "chill-lay-an" and not "chilly-un" (which is how I say it).... He may be right, but in his absence I'm sticking with chilly-un 😄
